Pets - Care & Quarantine

An imotive subject but one of great importance to Families moving to Cyprus and who may be travelling frequently back to the U.K and especially for the children

Until recently, Pets [Cats & Dogs] brought into Cyprus had, as a Rabies Free Country, to go under a strict 6 months Quarantine Programme under the supervision of the Government Veterinary Department and a record of all necessary vaccinations presented

The Quarantine either at Central Government Facilities in Nicosia [with charges for “Upkeep”] or when requested - [not widely "published'] a 6 Months“Home/House” Quarantine scheme.

This involves keeping your Pets at your Property in a 'dedicated /secure' area and not allowing the Pets to go outside this. Such arrangements would be “inspected” by a Veterinary Officer at intervals

Following entry to the EEC new arrangements are now in effect and a system of  approved “electronic” tagging [microchip systems]  and "Pet Passports" with supporting Vaccination and other Certifications 

These now permit freedom of Travel - In and Out of Cyprus to other E.E.C Countries including the U.K.

The "Pet Passport" Facilities are available in Cyprus, but can take 6 to 7 months to 'set up'

 Pet Licence

Dogs have to be registered in Cyprus with the Local Municipal / Town Hall Authority and an annual charge is levied for the Licence issued.
 

Veterinary Services

There are registered Vets in most Towns and Villages.
Regular Vaccinations required and Veterinary care is available, well below U.K. Costs 
Many also provide “Boarding” Facilities for Holidays and Grooming / Clipping Facilities

We have special arrangements for our Clients through professional companies who specialize in the care of &  transporting your Pets to and from Cyprus & the U.K and other major EEC Centres

 

Pet Insurance

"Pet Plan" type Insurance facilities are available – but not widely used at present  as Veterinary Fees are such, as normally sufficient to warrant Insurance Cover as opposed to the scale of Veterinary Fees charged in the U.K. Again we can arrange Insurance covers for you, if required

 

Food
All forms of Pet Food are freely available
KENNEL & CATTERY FACILITIES – are available throughout the Island

 

Buing a pet locally
There are numerous Pets Shops in the Famagusta District Towns especially Paralimni
also in Larnaca and Breeders throughout the island registered with such bodies as
the UK Kennel Club

The British Bases at Dhekelia and Episkopi also run a BARC & BFAWS Dog and
Cattery Services

 

Other pets
Horses & Ponies – There are several Saddle Clubs on Island On the Eastern side of the island  the British Forces at Dhekelia and Ayios Nikolaos/Vrysoules each run Saddle Clubs with Riding Schools / Stabling Facilities and regular Competitions

There are also major Facilities at the "Lapatsa" Country Club outside Nicosia and at Episkopi
