Brazil, the fifth-largest country in the world, has over 4,000 miles of sandy, palmed beaches. Making this unique coastline has become a mecca for water sports enthusiasts and increasingly for divers exploring the delights of the wonderfully clear waters. It will not come as much of a surprise that Rio de Janiero, with its famous Ipanema and Copacabana beaches and the most colourful carnival in the world, is the number one destination in Brazil.
São Paulo has the distinction of being South Americas largest city with a population of over 10 million and the heart of Brazils commerce, industry and finance. It is renowned across the continent for its lively nightlife, and the Museum de Arte is home to an internationally acclaimed Impressionist collection.
Climate in Brazil
The climate varies from the tropical north to the temperate south. The seasons are opposite to ours, so summer is November to March and winter is June to September.
Getting There
A fairly long-haul destination, many major airlines fly to the airports of Brazil. Flying time is 11 hours. The major airports for each region are Rio de Janeiro for the city, Sγo Paulo for the south, Brasilia for the capital and Pinto Martins for the north-east.
